Colophon text - translated [Therefore I am Gershom, son of Rabbi Moshe [of blessed memory], my name [sic - he means the father’s name] was [in the Ashkenazi tongue] Menzeln man of Soncino, have girded my loins and my mind * It is time for thee, Lord – his word lighteth my eyes * I therefore inscribed today the twenty four-books in small format so that every human may have it night and day to contemplate and need not walk four cubits without Torah in hand, may it be with him to read when he lyeth down and when he riseth night and day * when he carries tefillin * without which all lament * may their hands establish the work * enjoy and respect it * raise it heavenward heed it and listen to it * call on it in times of trouble and be heard * and upon whom doth not his light arise * the work was completed at the time that “all the earth was filled with the glory of God [i.e., during the Torah portion of Shelakh, corresponding to the 20th–25th of the month Nisan] in the year of “vow or freewill” [i.e., 5254] here in the city of Brescia under the rule of the [Venetian] government [may it be exalted] may God grant us to make books to no end and delighteh us with his Torah and the coming of the Redeemer * with the consolation of Zion and the building of Ariel with all of Israel amen [may it be so]]
